The Use Of Music - Final Task

Hello bloggers! Me and my group were looking around for music for our film. Since this will be a horror movie, we were looking for something like rock, and with some yelling. Just so we can recreate that chaotic vibe within the film. We aimed for artists like Radiohead, and deftones.

We came across the song Back To School by the music group Deftones. It was perfect! Chaotic, nice sound, good vocals, just amazing.  So I looked up who owned the rights to that song. It turned out to be licensed by Warner Records. I've sent them an email if I could use this song for our film. However, we still haven't received a reply. Also, their company seems hard to reach. It’s email isn’t public, nor phone number is present. Which means I could have possibly sent an incorrect email to the wrong receiver. So what would one do in this situation? Use copyright free music.

Copyright music isn't necessarily bad but it can take time to look for one that is cache and has meaning. Although it is disappointing to not be able to use the music we liked, we still have hope for a response. Yet, this film will come out amazing either way. But that is all for now. Finalizing - Editing

Hey again! Here comes the end of our slope of our editing process. This is where things start to calm down as they get solved. We retrieved the missing footage, and we are back on track.

As I notice things are not as intense, I start giving my opinion on what should we do again. The application I used to sort some of the scenes was Adobe Premiere Pro. I really liked using this application because it helped develop my editing skills further. As well as understand how there are various techniques available when it comes to editing. For adding sound effects, I had to transport a few files. First I recorded the audio on my phone, then I converted it into a MP3 file. After converting it, I had to send it to my email and then add it onto the piece of media. It was a lengthy process after doing a couple, but it was so worth it.

While this approach was time-consuming and oftentimes frustrating, the ultimate product was well worth the effort. Each additional sound effect provided life and dimension to the project, improving the entire watching experience. Moments like this, when the benefits of our effort are visible, remind me of the joy that comes with the skill of editing. Sometimes this even makes me think if this should be my future career. This is what gets me going, so why not!

As the last parts come together and the production nears completion, I am reminded of the fortitude and ingenuity necessary to traverse the twists and turns of the editing process. With each obstacle and lesson acquired, I become not only a better editor, but also a monument to the force of tenacity and devotion in the quest of artistic perfection. But that is all for now. Thank you for reading!

The Mountain - Editing Blog

Welcome back! This will be another explanation of the editing progress. The "mountain" represents he tip of the editing process. Which means, this is where it got difficult.

There was a long space within the editing process. No work was done. I was worrying! And knowing we had a handful of work to do, no one was available to dedicate their time for the final task. I couldn't let the team down, so I had to step in and actually help out with the putting the scenes together. I asked Natalie if I could help her out and she said yes so we got to work. We reminded Jaden as well to cooperate since he is also responsible for the editing.

During our work session, I realized half of our footage was missing to edit. I was freaking out! I tried seeing if I could restore previous media from our emails, but no use. Luckily, I contacted everyone on this issue and Angelica had the rest of them on her phone. I was relieved, I was saved, WE were saved. So I continued editing, I added sounds, special effects, and other things to recreate that eerie feeling. I even broke some tree twigs to create a crackling sound for each step of the film. It was scary! I was even scared. But that is all for now. Thank you for reading.

The Beginning - Editing

Hello bloggers! Here this blog marks the beginning of the editing journey for our final task film. At first, I was feeling unsure about the whole process because we started late on this due to us having a break right after filming. But I got to work anyway on my behalf.

When it came to editing the films, I aided in giving my criticism of what footage should be used for each scene from our storyboard. As well as what order they should be in. This was essential in the process because it made sure everyone's criteria were met, along with the exam rules.

I gave my opinion that we should move the scene of chasing at the start of the film rather than the end so it can be an attention seeker. However, my decision was disagreed with. The team believed it should begin with the issue being introduced rather than the murder happening right away. Instead, the chase should be mentioned at the end while it leads to the killing which can lead to  climax. I respected this decision. I eventually liked it afterwards because I can see how going straight away with an important scene can make the audience clueless, and not feel any type of attraction towards the plot. Not reaching this element can destroy the entire meaning of the opening scene. Which then, leads to a bad movie. Without reaching the audience, the lack of no connection makes it so the audience drifts away. So I thank my team for pointing this element out.

I still continued to make my opinion on more alterations. Yet, the rest of the editing journey still awaits. But that is all for now, thank you for reading.

Last Minute Change - Filming

Welcome back! This filming journey has come across a dilemma. Which needs to include footage. The opening has to be 2 minutes. And we only have 1 minute and 30 seconds of footage. So what do we do? We change the plot.

However, our goal to add more footage was unable to fit within our schedule. Since all of us thought we were done, this came very inexpediently. Angelica had exams and volleyball for the whole week, Natalie had the first week of her first job, and I had to catch up on a lot of schoolwork. The only one free is Jaden. So to cooperate with this issue, we decided we would each record scenes individually. To change the plot,  we decided we would do an emergency phone call at the beginning of the movie. And as a prop for context, we decided to make a missing poster of Natalie. It looked very official. For the individual recordings, we would each record our voices and follow a dialog that seems like an emergency phone call. This would happen whenever we had time, so it didn't interfere with our busy schedule as much.

And with said changes, we were back on track. We were able to fulfill the missing footage, and we were able to continue the rest of our progress. But that is all for now, thank you for reading.

Finalizing Scenery - Film

Welcome back bloggers! Previously we mentioned how our scenes should be incorporated with the film. As well as deciding which scene would be for each frame. So now we will cover the result of them.

For each of the scenes, everything came out as we planned it to be, we conveyed the emotion of fear and it was perfect. We all verified which scenes are good for use and what was extra.

Filming these scenes were definitely an experience. I had to act as one of the killer's victims and it took me a while to get into the ditch scene we needed. It was so scary to climb down in, especially at night. But my team supported me and helped me get through that fear. And the scene came out just as planned. Although it was eerie and creepy, I had to get over the feeling for the film. I was dedicated.

When we were wrapping everything up, Angelica's parents started to worry and call us on if we were finished or not. This did interrupt our filming a bit which was a problem but we all understood. But this did affect Angelica later on as we are now prevented from filming so late at night. And she is one of the actors, so this is a dilemma. To solve this, we decided we would record ourselves on the missing footage individually. We also had to change the plot, so we had to act fast. But that's all for now thank you for reading.

Incorporating Sceneries - Film Blog

Hey guys! Back at it again with this awesome film. So recently. I have went over which setting will be for which scene. Now it's time to discuss the operation of these scenes.

So for the water scene, we got the camera and did a pan and establishing shot. This help emphasize the setting's beauty, which added to the emotion we wanted for the audience. We wanted to draw them in, so they can have their attention focused on the beauty, then get scared when it comes to the later scenes.

For the trees, we filmed the elf monster (luka) behind them. We used the trees as a barrier to make the elf look like he was stalking the investigator. It was thrilling! And with the camera we used, it looked amazing with its great quality. The shot we did for this was a zoom in and following shot.

For the sky, we did an establishing shot to represent the time. The time is essential to our film because since we are trying to recreate that spooky vibe, we decided to do this at night. And night brings out everything that is scary. Which once again leads the audience through this emotional journey, which draws them in and yet randomly scares them out of nowhere which is essential for our horror movie.

Lastly, the ditch, contributed to the scary feeling as well. When we would yell, it would give an echo sound effect. Which is chilling and called attention from the investigator. Which led the investigator to the monster, in which then led to a chasing scene.

But that is all for now, thank you for reading.

Filming Scenes

Hello! Welcome back to this wonderful trip. My group started filming right away when it came to this genre. We chose this forest called Wolf Lake Park. It had a big scenery of trees and water, it was perfect. I picked up my fellow teammates Natalie and Luka. The rest of the team, Angelica and Jaden, carpooled separate to the park. As we arrived, we all met together and discussed the plan. We began to plan out which sceneries would be perfect for each of our scenes.

We separated what scenes would include water. sky. trees. and a ditch. For the water scenes that include the lakes, ponds, and river, we set those to be for our intro. So when the opening begins. you are introduced to a beautiful river. For the sky scenes, it was also incorporated with the river shots. It established the setting and time, which was outside at night. This was essential for our genre since it was horror so it had to be something and sometime scary. In which this was perfect for us to film at. Then for the trees and ditch, it was good to have because it really gave us that full forestry affect we were looking for. Without actually going to one. So it was local, and safer than most actual forests. Now for the ditch, we used these to film our killing scenes. It was dark, deep, and let us incorporate echoes of screaming there. It all played together very well. But that is all for now, thank you for reading!
