Planning Blog: Title Design

Font: For our fonts we will probably either use the same font to keep a continuous pattern or use fonts for different sections. For example will use different fonts for the director, actors, title, etc. It depends when we start the editing process.

Contrast: For our font color we have many different possibly colors that we will use. We might use white, black, or red. It depends on the background of the video and how it well it matches and making sure that the color is easy read to and not blend in with the background.

Working Title: A possible movie title would be Zelphar. This will be our movie title because it's the name of the main killer within the film.

How long will each title be on the screen before it disappears?
It will be about 10-30 seconds.

Pictures that emphasized the man wearing white makeup mopping the floor and then departing, leaving a dead man at the door. In the other scene, a female is creating something.

How does the film establish a feeling of the genre?

Through the use of makeup, the movie creates a sense of the genre. The murderer of the man is first seen wearing a frightening white clown mask. It also depicts the heavily bloodied dead man. There's ominous music at the opening as well.

- What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

The opening segment gives priority to the shots of dolls suspended in midair like still lifes. Most likely, this was done to capitalize on the movie's 3D effect. Additionally, there was a scene when a creature—possibly with malicious intent—swung in the air, alerting viewers to the fact that the film is about to begin at the conclusion of the opening sequence.

- How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

The film establishes a feeling of the genre from the outset by having a specific song, the visuals, and colors. The song they chose is slow but gives the watcher a sense of mystery and also intensity as the music gets faster and has more instruments involved as the outset reaches its end. The colors are also especially done to emphasizes the movies feeling of darkness by choosing white and black colors and not a single drop of color. The visuals are also meant to give a sense of horror as the dolls have grotesque vines growing out of their eyes and are holding and presumably hitting themselves with machetes and knives

What images are prioritized in the opening sequences?

The images prioritized in the opening sequences has to be the drops of blood, the knife, the restaurant and establishing the main character.

How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the opening sequences?

Because of the way blood is introduced early on, it creates a horror movie vibe. Additionally, the word "psycho" is bolded in the headline to alert readers to the possibility of one nasty person. It is made clear that this is a horror film at the very end when the main character threatens to kill the bartender.

Title Research: Art of the Title Website & Watch the Titles Website

Welcome back again! This blog will be about researching for the title and the title design of our final exam. Since our film will be about horror, I'm looking for scary-looking title designs. Using the websites Art of the Title and Watch the Titles gives me various examples of what I'm looking for.

The title design to our opening sequence is crucial because not only does it match with the theme and show the name of the film, it also helps give a chance to show a piece of the plot, meaning, and the characters. And since the theme is horror, this will help add onto the dramatic weight the suspense will hold with its dramatic opening title design.

Even titles with the right color, font, and the right effects can add so much to the film. And if made correctly, the audience will feel ecstatic when the movie starts. Which is helpful because it sets the tone/mood in which the audience should feel. Like if it is a horror movie, then the audience should feel spooked from the beginning so they can later feel like they should be expecting some time of jumpscare throughout the film. But that is all for now, thank you for reading!
